Ascent From Darkness
I don’t even know where to begin writing about this book; it was unlike anything I’ve ever read before. It’s not always easy to read as some parts are slightly disturbing and the structure of the book seems a bit disjointed at some points, but it was definitely intriguing and kept me turning pages. I finished reading the whole thing in about 18 hours.
Chronicling his life as a satanist, Michael Leehan brings to light something that few people take the time to seriously consider: the spiritual warfare raging on all around us. Leehan leaves nothing to the imagination when discussing the way to he welcomed Satan into his life and the way to he became one of his “soldiers” fulfilling various missions, the most prominent being to go after lukewarm Christians and corrupt them. At one point he was even given the mission of killing prominent pastor Craig Groeschel, a mission he did not go through with. Throughout the book it’s evident that God was not about to give up on Michael, He was always placing strong believers in his path to love him, pray for him and share God with him. Eventually, just hours before Michael was planning to take his own life, a great spiritual battle takes place and he finally surrenders his spirit to God for good. After his transformation, Michael is able to use his spiritual gifting for God’s purposes and minister to almost everyone he comes in contact with.
It’s easy to get caught up in day-to-day life and forget that spiritual warfare is going on all around us, this book serves as a reminder that Satan is out there employing people to serve him and his goals. We have to fight every day for our family, friends and those who are around us.
