Once Upon a Prince
It’s a story that many women have imagined – a normal, everyday girl being swept off their feet by a handsome prince. A big wedding follows and the normal, everyday girl is now a princess or even a queen. The odds of it happening are slim to none, but the dream is still there in the hearts of many. The recent marriage of Prince William and his commoner bride, Catherine, has aided in keeping that dream alive.
In Rachel Hauck’s new book Once Upon a Prince we meet Susanna Truitt, a woman whose 12 year relationship has recently come to an end. When she least expects it she meets a man named Nate, at least that’s what he tells her. She doesn’t know that he is actually Prince Nathaniel, a man about the take the throne in his small country of Brighton. When she finds out his real identity, she feels all hope is lost because the laws in his country prevent him from marrying a commoner.
After he returns to Brighton, Nathaniel cannot stop thinking about Susanna. But there’s no hope because of Brightonian laws….or is there?
This story is a like a grown up fairy tale; rather than the characters just meeting and living happily ever after the reader shares in the real life struggles that surround a situation like this. Even though it seems like princess stories are for children, this story really captures the attention of the reader and pulls at the heart strings. My only complaint is that I felt like it ended too soon, I really wanted to further follow the story of Susanna and Nathaniel. Since this is the first book in Hauck’s new Royal Wedding Series I’m holding out hope that I’ll be seeing more of them as the series goes on.
