Cookbook Review: The Kitchn Cookbook

The Kitchn Cookbook
by
Sara Kate Gillingham & Faith Durand

I’ve used a few recipes from thekitchn.com with great success, so I was excited to have the opportunity to review this new cookbook. This is a gorgeous, hard cover cookbook with a ton of gorgeous pictures.  Not every dish has a picture included, but the ones that are included are the kind that make you hungry! 🙂

This book  is unique in the fact that the very beginning actually talks about setting up your kitchen in the efficient way, even covering various types of kitchens. It also addresses kitchen tools and how to care for them, even a cleaning schedule for keeping your kitchen running smoothly. Also covered are 50 basic kitchen skills, thumbing through them even I learned a thing or two and I’ve been cooking for quite a while.

At 130+ pages in, you finally get to the recipes. The recipes are laid out beautifully and well organized.  They are easy to follow with step-by-step instructions that don’t leave you guessing about what you’re supposed to do. There are many that I can’t wait to try.

The book is wrapped up with a section on how to plan a gathering. Included are topics such as how to set the table, how to set the mood and how to work with different dietary needs. I don’t know that I’ll ever plan anything fancy enough to need all that info, but it’s nice to know where to find it if I need it.

This beautiful cookbook would be a great gift, especially for someone who is just starting out with a place of their own. It provides a ton of useful information alongside from delicious sounding recipes.
